Vision Boards: How to Manifest the Life You Want

It is natural that by knowing what you do not want, you are able to clarify what you do want; and there is nothing wrong with identifying a problem before beginning to look for a solution. But many people, over time, become problem oriented rather than solution oriented, and in their examination and explanation of the problem, they continue the perpetuation of the problem.

Our entire lives are spent hearing “no”. From the time we’re little, reaching for a hot pan on the stove, to when we’re older and we realize that puberty and interactions with our peers comes with an entirely new set of rules than it had before. We hear it so often that we’re conditioned to even say it to ourselves.

I would like a new house. “No”, you can’t afford it.
I would like to find love. “No.” you aren’t pretty enough to attract a decent mate.

While there are obstacles and circumstances of which should be met with a loud and resounding no, most of our desires are within our reach if we just dare to lean forward and grasp them. Yet, this idea that we’re not allowed to, or can’t, keeps us from trying.

But, what if I told you that you could have it? Anything your heart desired, you could manifest. That million dollars you want, or that lottery you keep playing- it could be yours if you believed it could.

A belief is only a thought you continue to think; and when your beliefs match your desires, then your desires must become your reality.

I’ve made entire posts (here and here) about attracting our thoughts, so I won’t repeat myself too much here. I will, however, give you steps to attract your desires- and yes, it’s magick, and yes, it takes a bit of belief. However, the irony is that this idea isn’t new. I won’t be revolutionizing magick, or manifestation with this post. It’s been around for ages, and even those who claim they aren’t witches use this to bring around to them what they want.

I’m talking about visualizing!

Visualizing is the act of seeing in your minds eye the very thing you intend as if it has already come to pass. It is supposed to invoke in you the feelings, and gratitude, that the item[s] or circumstances you wish for would bring to you if it were placed on your doorstep in that very moment. It also helps align the Universal Frequency with that which you feel in that moment (the idea that you’ve already attained the thing you most want) and encourages said Universe to bring it to you. The Universe abhors a vacuum.

Take 15 minutes daily, thinking of pleasant scenarios regarding your body, with the sole intent of enjoying your body and appreciating its strength and stamina and flexibility and beauty. When you visualize for the joy of visualizing rather than with the intention of correcting some deficiency, your thoughts are more pure and, therefore, more powerful.

This can be done by sitting still and just using your imagination. I’ve done this for many years, and it’s extremely effective. But, lately, I’ve had the strong desire to organize my goals and thoughts. I am usually so scattered about in my thoughts, that in any given moment I’m not entirely clear on what I want. I have a lot of things I want to accomplish with my time on this Earth, and little direction in order to achieve them.

However, I’ve begun feeling that pull of synchronicity and determination. There are signs everywhere around me, tugging me in certain directions, and my determination is further spurned by recognizing these signs are messages.

The idea of a Vision Board, though a very common practice, kept sprouting in my peripheral- and, like usual, I ignored it until it became so glaringly bright that I would have had to wear sunglasses in my sleep not to notice it. I resigned that I was being stubborn and sat down to tackle the task of putting my intention into a tangible and reliable format.

A Vision Board, Manifestation Board, or Intention Board, is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a foam, cork, or any other medium you choose, board that you hang pictures that represent your desires, feelings, or intents. The pictures, usually unlabeled so as to not limit yourself, should bring to you the same evocation of feelings as if you sat and imagined you already own or have the things you want. They’ll be unique to you, and don’t have to look at all like what someone else would choose for the same thing. It’s about what it invokes in you.

As you imagine and visualize and verbalize your new story, in time you will believe the new story, and when that happens, the evidence will flow swiftly into your experience.

I started with a list. I wrote down a whole bunch of things that I wanted to manifest. There are no deadlines for these things, but they are things I truly want.

A few examples of what I wrote down:

  • 1) Be more active in the Pagan and Witchy Communities
  • 2) Spend more quality time with my family
  • 3) Eat healthy (for me that happens to be Keto)
  • 4) Reach and maintain a certain goal weight
  • 5) Renew our vows
  • 6) Buy a really bad-ass Air-fryer
  • 7) Grow my gemstone collection

Then I scoured the internet for pictures that invoked feelings and beliefs in me that not only did I have these things, but that I deserved them. You can cut out pictures from magazines, draw pictures, or any other way to bring about a visual representation of your intention. You can even add quotes and words to your board. There are a few on mine that have to do with healing and believing I’m worthy.

Next, I cut them all out, and laid them on the board. I rearranged them for a bit- fitting all of them on the board in a way that made sense to me. My husband and son also made their own, and they didn’t spend nearly as much time on this step as I did. I could demonize my need for perfection here, but in reality, I wanted this board to inspire me- and I’m a sucker for an artsy aesthetic.

Arranging all the pictures on my foam board

When I’d finally arranged them in a way that made me excited, I slowly began gluing them down with Rubber Cement. Because I had collaged my pictures together, I took a picture of their arrangement beforehand. I started from the bottom right corner of the board, gluing down the background pictures first and slowly layering the rest on top. It took me over an hour to glue everything down in the way I’d had it arranged, but I really love the end result so it was totally worth it.

After it’s all glued down, it’s time to figure out where and what you want to do with it. I wanted to hang this in my kitchen, above my Coffee Cart, where I would see it every day. However, once I’d placed all those pretty pictures up on that board, I was damned if I was going to nail through it and ruin the perfection of it! Ha!

I sat there for a second until my brain snapped and said “use a soda tab!” I’m sure this idea isn’t mine, and I’ve probably seen it somewhere at some point and shoved it into the crafty corners of my mind to use later, but I was so impressed with myself that I had to show you all.

Ingenuity and too much glue 😀

The soda tab came off my husband’s Diet Sprite. Since I don’t drink soda, or pop- now that I’m in the Midwest.

I found where I wanted to place it, and heated up my glue gun. When I glue things with a glue gun I have two modes; not enough and too much. I went full throttle on this bad boy, because I didn’t want it to go anywhere.

When it was dry, I hung up a coffee hook and hung my Vision board exactly where I had imagined it would go. I’m tickled to bits about how it came out, and the only thing I would change is measuring where I put the tab next time. I eyeballed it and in order for it to stay straight on the wall, it has to have a pushtab sitting next to it. The way I see it, it’s uniquely me- crafted with intention and imperfect- so I love it.

My Intention Board hung up in my kitchen!

To the naked eye, and anyone who knows me and my artistic background- it could be an art piece. However, to me, it’s a symbolic representation of magick. Every day I look at this board, several times a day, and each picture makes me feel that the things I want are already here. I already have them. I am already enjoying them, and it’s been amazing.

I plan to use this board beginning February 1st for something called Miracle Mornings (I’ll be posting about this in the future) to further my visualization and intentions. However, since creating it, I feel clearer. I don’t have all those things circling around in my head, and instead now see them in a tangible format that doesn’t just increases my vibrational frequency to receive them- it also removes my responsibility to remember them. Now, there’s no way I could forget them, and I’ve come to realize that’s why we hold on to so much- fear of forgetting it.

It’s been up for less than a week, and it’s already working. Things are falling into place and opportunities are presenting themselves that haven’t been beforehand.

It’s all hung up and pretty!

My next step is to Mod Podge the entire thing to make it all shiny and to seal it. I’ll write the year on the back, because I think I’ll make a new updated one next year- and I’ll be able to see how my dreams and intentions have manifested over the years!

What would your Intention Board look like?

Until tomorrow, my friends…
