How a Magickal Shower Can Change Your Day

Magick comes in all forms, including quick and simple. Today, I needed both.

I didn’t sleep well last night. I woke up this morning groggy with a headache the size of Texas, and an attitude to boot. Now, normally, I just let the day drag on in these cases- I sit in my little pit of despair waiting for unsuspecting creatures to cross my path so I can lash out at them. It’s done subconsciously, mind you, but nevertheless, it makes for a very unpleasant day all around.

Me, when I’m in a bad mood, waiting for something to pop off

Today, however, I decided I’d remedy my morning grump with a bit of magick.

I didn’t want it to take long, because in all honesty, I just wasn’t feeling up to it- but also, I wanted to be in a better mood before my kiddo got up and started his day. No matter how much of a funk I’m in, I make it a point to be as affectionate and kind as I can to him when he first gets up; however, like all kids, I’m sure he picks up on the subtleties of my mood and internalizes them- and I try to avoid that as often as I can. That’s another post for another day, though.

Anyway, I needed a shower and I knew once I started making noise the entire house would begin waking and I wasn’t ready to deal with anyone just yet. I went into my bathroom, shut the door, and resolved that I would turn the hot water and cleansing of my body into a purifying ritual.

I turned on the water, let it get steaming hot, and dripped some Lavender and Tea Tree essential oils right into the bottom of the tub. The aroma hit me instantly, and already I was starting to feel those knots in my neck ease up.

I added a shower bomb of Eucalyptus and Spearmint, to wake me up and remove the headache. The fizzing was also a very soothing and satisfying experience.

Magick in a fizzy little package

When I finally stepped under the water, I envisioned that not only was it cleaning my skin, it was purifying my aura. As the water slicked down my body, I sent with it any bad thoughts or irritation. I sat there for a bit, just letting the water do its thing, and I can tell you- just two or three minutes in that shower had already erased centuries off my negative mindset.

I washed up, taking special care to be grateful for each soapy sud, as I visualized it not only washing my skin but sterilizing my attitude. My shampoo was chemically intended to shine my hair, and as I lathered it, I visualized it shining my demeanor- brightening my outlook for the day. My conditioner, silky and smooth, added a creamy balm to any irritability I still felt.

By the time I was done, I felt like a completely new person. I left the steam in the bathroom as I exited the shower and went about my face care routine- already excited to greet the day. When a small knock and a sleepy voice whispered “Mommy, are you in there?” I smiled, because now I wouldn’t have to fake my happiness for the day. My spell, small and uncomplicated, had eradicated any hostility or anger I felt toward the day- and that headache? Gone.

So, today, or any day, really- that you might not wake up on the right side of the bed, I encourage you to see the mundane as magickal. Enjoy your shower and turn it into a spectacle of glowing light and joyous blessings. I did, and now I’m absolutely ready to be exactly who I want to be today.

Until tomorrow, my friends…
